Dave Bing, an American basketball icon, not only left an enduring mark on the court but also made significant contributions as an entrepreneur and, from 2009 to 2013, as the mayor of Detroit.
Early Life and Basketball Career
Born and raised in Washington, D.C., Bing lost sight in his left eye at the age of five due to an accident.
Despite this adversity, he excelled in basketball at Spingarn High School, leading the team to the city championship in 1961. In 1962, he was named to the Parade All-American high school team.
