A few weeks ago, we wrote about area residents who were receiving calls from people claiming to represent Publishers Clearing House. Of course, all of the local residents were promised large sums of prize money.

Though Publishers Clearing House does conduct sweepstakes and award prizes, a lot of scam artists fraudulently use the PCH name in an attempt to steal money from people.

Now the scammers are using a slightly different approach in an attempt to con people into sending advance payments for taxes due on the prize money they have allegedly won.

In at least one case, a woman with an accent is identifying herself as Deborah Holland and informing people that they have won $1.5 million and a new car.

There is a Deborah Holland, who is executive vice president of PCH, but she isn’t making these phone calls.

Obviously the scammer is falsely using Holland’s name to con people into believing the call is really from PCH.
